Want to take a ride on the “Inside Track” of songs from Fannie Lou musical? Well, this is the place to do it!
Fannie Lou “Inside Tracks” are demo versions of songs from the musical, created for promotional purposes. We’re making a few of those demos available to the public to listen to as our way of saying thanks to our Fannie Lou musical patrons, supporters and friends. All Fannie Lou “Inside Tracks” demo songs can be heard in their entirety right here on this website.
The first “Inside Tracks” song is “Forget Me Not.”
In the musical, “Forget Me Not” is performed by the title character, Fannie Lou Hamer. For this promotional version, however, the song was recorded by three of our DC cast members. I joined in as well. Each person represents a theme and/or mode of thought that Fannie Lou musical examines. Some were adamant about securing their voting and other rights, while others were steadfast against the pursuit. Still others were unsure of which way to turn. And, the song itself reflects several of the musical’s themes: hope, support, vigilance, character, foundation, awareness and strength -- and, of course, remembrance. It is important that all aspects of the historical voting rights struggle be remembered, even those that might be difficult to face. That’s because it is only through a thorough, comprehensive understanding of both our triumphs and mistakes that we’ll be able to progress and move forward unabated.
You can find the lyrics to “Forget Me Not” printed below.
So, take your first ride on the Fannie Lou “Inside Track” journey with this demo version of “Forget Me Not.” I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for your support of Fannie Lou musical, and also for your good wishes and words of encouragement. They are very much appreciated!
Sincerely,
Felicia

[VERSE 1]
Forget me not
Though I may seem some distance from you
I’m here right now, from day to day
I’ll offer hope and courage,
Help ease your fears along the way
Remember to forget me not
[VERSE 2]
I’ve seen a lot
In all of the decades of my lifetime
Worn shoes you've not walked in yet
So when you need your memories
Whether in triumph or regret
Remember to forget me not
[BRIDGE]
Oh ------- when times get hard
I’ll raise you high
I’ll share good fortunes, too
My back is broad
And my shoulders are strong
I’ll cradle you
Carry you
Lift you up
As you move along
[VERSE 3]
Forget me not,
Lean on me, I’ll be here beside you
You’ll never have to stand alone
And when your strength eludes you
Reach out and borrow from my own
Remember to forget me not
[INSTRUMENTAL SECTION]
[REPEAT BRIDGE]
Oh ------- when times get hard
I’ll raise you high
I’ll share good fortunes, too
My back is broad
And my shoulders are strong
I’ll cradle you
Carry you
Lift you up
As you move along
[REPEAT VERSE 3]
Forget me not,
Lean on me, I’ll be here beside you
You’ll never have to walk alone
And when your strength eludes you
Reach out and borrow from my own
Remember to forget me not
[CODA]
And when you need your memories
Whether in triumph or regret
Remember to forget me not
Remember to forget me not
Forget me not
Forget me not
Forget me not
Forget me not
